About us

In 1933 the Hungarian Architect Babinsky reaches the city of Baños de Agua Santa and built what we now know as the Hotel Sangay, in front of the thermal pools and the waterfall named after The Baños Virgin.

He Built the Hotel with a European Renaissance style with 21 spacious rooms, a cafeteria and a restaurant with large windows where one can admire the valley, mountains, beautiful gardens with exotic plants and flowers from this area.

In 1942, Babinsky sold the hotel to Mr Pedro Vargas, who renamed it "Grand Hotel". Mr. Vargas in 1959 sold it to Mr Alonso Jaramillo Alban, a visionary from Ambato and an eternal lover of nature. Don Alonso with his family decide to rename it "Hotel Madrid" in 1972 his daughter Martha Alban and her husband Mr. Brian Warmington an English gentleman took over the management of the Hotel (changing the name to "SANGAY SPA HOTEL "). Projecting future market needs built a swimming pool, sauna, Turkish, polar pool, tennis and squash became the pioneers in offering these services in the city of Baños.

In 1980 26 cabins were built around the pool providing alternative lodging for regular customers and in 1992 built the Executive Area with 16 rooms, and 2 suites with living room, fireplace and balconies from where you can appreciate the beautiful waterfall . On February 14, 2003 was inaugurated a "Garden Café" a place with a tropical atmosphere where you can enjoy exquisite barbecue and cocktails, This was also renamed in april 2007 "The Chozón of The Molienda" On December 31, 2004 the Disco opened named "El Reventador" with capacity for 200 people. Sangay Spa Hotel now continues with the development of projects and improvements with the firm intention of providing quality infrastructure and services for its customers because they deserve the best , these improvements are to reach international markets and trends to develop a five-star hotel which will make a real example for tourism activities and also a high standard example for The City Of Baños- Ecuador.
